Leeeeeeaving !!!

So tomorrow I'm leaving...again.
I'm leaving for Canada this time and it shows I wasn't really joking when saying that I wouldn't be home a lot during the summer. ;)
Again, I will NOT have any internet access so don't be angry or feel snubbed if I don't answer or ignore you during this time. :P

I originally planned a long post detailing what I was gonna do the next three weeks (three weeks, OMG!!!), since I'm going to do some volunteer works in relation with the whale population of the St Lawrence river, but settling down after my previous trip and preparing for the next took over my life and the time eluded me.
Well, I'll guess I'll go through a more interesting explanation after I return.

Porky Pig: "That's all folks!!!"

My scrambled mind, let me show you it

So, I stumbled upon this yesterday as I was prowling the nerdily AWESOME catalog of shirts of Threadless:

Let's see how I qualify, uh?
-have an accent: Yes...when I speak english of course! (when I speak french not so much tough, shit D<)
-wear glasses: Check once again, actually I'm nearly blind without my glasses, which as everybody knows is absolute proof of incalculable mental capabilities.
-one word: FRENCH.: YES, yes, yes and fucking yes!!!
Born and raised in France from a totally french family, where do I sign for my "intelligent living being" diploma?
-play CHESS: Damn, a down point. I've never learned the rules of chess and don't ever want to. I claim it's because I think it must be boring (actually I'm afraid it might be too difficult for me :P)
-LIE: Awesome!!!! I do it all the time (except on internet because, being partly anonymous, I can't see the need to do it). And actually, not only do I lie a lot, I also lie very well...and I'm proud of it! XD
-enjoy classical music: I love classical music!!! I spent 8 years taking classes of musical theory and of viola da gamba, and I just can't have enough of the music (I especially have an undying passion for russian classical music and composers).
-stroke your beard: But...but, I'm a girl!!! Even though I'm (way) hairier than the majority of women, I still can't pretend to have a beard...
Wait...could it means that you can't be intelligent UNLESS you've got a beard!!! Go with me all women (except bearded ones :P) and shaved men, let us show the HAIRY our stupidness and let them SUFFER from it!!! Fight for the kill!!! Death to the hairy one!!!

Er....
That was my daily dose of crazy, kindly delivered to you by boredom. Thank you very much, I hope you enjoyed the show.

The spirit: "A murdering thug who writes nursery rhymes and mind his mother!..wow!"

Home sweet home

I'm back!!!
Actually I came home two days ago, but I couldn't be bothered before to use my computer (while usually it's one of the first things I come back to after a trip :P). It was great really, we got to walk all days long in completely wild forests inhabited solely by birds and other critters that were hiding from our sight, or in borderless meadows whose green was only disturbed by the touch of colour brought by the flowers. I observed a lot of chamois from a very short distance (Squeeee!!!! XD), buzzards, chaffinches by dozens, a snake and countless of cows. A nature lover heaven honestly! But I'm still glad it's over.
Physically, I just feel like Indy at the end of the first movie (dammit, what was the original tittle?), when he's so sore, he can't stand to be touched anywhere...except his elbow. Really I've never been this way before: both my feet are bloody as hell, my knees are completely destroyed, I'm covered by scratches here and there and my face and neck are currently experiencing the worst sunburn of my life (stupid me, how could I forget my suncream?!!).
But that's not really important, not comfortable and rather annoying, yes, but still not that bad. My psychological state and stress was honestly more of a concern to me than a thousand bruises.
Part of the reason I felt it was so important to go to hikes like this one is because it's a real challenge to me. I don't know how much you're aware of OCD, but it's exactly what it's name says: an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder; this means that I have a lot of rituals, of obsessive thoughts that turn into a compulsive behaviour, and of course when I travel (especially in rather spartan conditions like these) I can't execute them. This leads to a whole lot of stress and before leaving I honestly wasn't sure I could deal with it during the whole week.I know it should be nothing, but I'm still glad I could take the strain that it represented and was able to fully enjoy my trip in heaven. ;)
Gonna sleep now, so long folks!!!

Wonder Woman: "How long have you been sulking around here?
Batman: Long enough to hear that none of you could get past your cartoonish, slack-jawed dumbfoundedness over the situation and secure any answers as to why a man who we all knowis dead walks around articulating like a walking anachronism.
Green Lantern/Kyle Rayner: That is, by far, the most complex sentence I've ever heard anyone utter.
Flash/Wally West: Ten bucks says he's been hiding in the shadows for the last hour, just so he could come up with a put-down that classy."
Batman:

Yep, I'm leaving on Sunday

Yes!!!
It's confirmed I'll take the train Sunday morning and leave for Jura. It still is one of the wildest part of France, and I can't wait to hike (at least 6 hours a day) in these magnificent forests and mountains. I'll have a professional guide with me and will also be with several other hikers.
Despite being rather anxious, my avoidant disorder doesn't mix very well with these kinds of situations, I'm even more excited! Yeeeeh!!!

Agatha Trunchbull: "I cannot for the life of me understand why small children take so long to grow up.
Holidays...at last the cherished freedom is back

Yeepee!!!
I'm free, free at last! Today's was my last exam and now I'm officially in HOLIDAYS!!!
Honestly I almost thought it would never come, but finally freedom it's here opening the door to a summer of madness and joy.
A very busy summer too, I won't be home often and will certainly not be able to go to LJ for rather long periods of time. Firstly I'll surely (I'm just waiting for a confirmation) go for a week-long hike in the forests and mountains of Jura (in the Est of France). It's not 100% guaranteed yet, but I really hope it will work. #crossing fingers#
If it's concreted, that means I won't be able to come near any computer next week, but it's all right, I'll be back soon kiddies! ;D

Matilda: "It's not trash, daddy.

I need to share this now.
Everybody with an internet connection knows about the huge phenomenon of LOLcats who, despite (or partly because of) their horrible grammar, manage to be most of the time incredibly funny and cute. Several animals, most notably Loldogs have followed the march, but in the cute revolution was still waiting for the supreme weapon.
And, finally, it has been found.
Let me introduce to you the cute revolution of the century : LOLAussie-critters.

Awwwwwwww!!!!
Iz ded of the keeyoot!!!
No one, not even a baby platypus should be allowed this level of adorableness....

Duke: "Small things like midgets and children are always the most powerful!"

Almost done, yeah!!!!
I'm still busy with my exams but I've only left to pass "Russian" and "Linguistics of nordic languages", which are two of my stronger assets so now I can, at last, say that the worst is behind me.
Better yet, I finally have the confirmation that this summer I'm going back to Canada: I will live, work, eat, think and breath for WHALES!!!!!!
But I'll say more about this later when I'll have a little more time on my hand.

My russian awaits me but I can't leave without sharing the truly amazing awesomesauciness displayed at a page named: "Dagen då larverna kom till Flogsta", or if you prefer: "The day the larvae came to Flogsta". Don't worry there's no need to speak swedish, the pictures are self-explanatory! :O
HERE!!!
This my dears is why you should believe me when I say that humanity is without future.
Because I love you

Unlike yesterday's grumpy post I'll just answer today to one of the most baffling questions ever voiced: How can some people hate vultures?
They're personally among my favorite birds (especially the Griffon Vulture) and I've always found myself unable to sympathize with the numerous humans who hate or at least scorn them.
Not beautiful enough? Not impressive?
Nobody who's seen a real life one can honestly say this , so what?
The realization came to me as I was on Bird and Moon (one of the most poetic website ever, especially the eponymous storyline):

It's jealousy!!!
This is me NOT being happy

I'm still in the middle of the process of desperately failing my exams hence my reduced presence on LJ. But I had to post today.
Honestly I originally just wanted to make a cheesy nicey lil' entry on something stupidly cute just for the sake of changing my mind from the dreaded revisions...but DC changed it all with, you guessed it, Final Crisis #1.
I just read the comics I bought on Thursday (comics day is Thursday in France since these beloved little sheets of paper have to cross the Atlantic to actually come to us) and my brain melted the moment I began to read this issue.

Now before you continue to read, I just wanted to warn that this post is full of hate about it, so if you want to remain spoiler or whining-free...you better not scroll down.

Really WTF DC!!??!?
I patiented and supported all the unforgivable failing that was Countdown because I was somehow hoping that Final Crisis would be a epic story to remember.
So what is this shit?
I knew that J'onn J'onzz was about to be killed (even if I didn't want to believe it), but THIS? The martian Manhunter embodies the spirit of the Justice League and is one of these few characters able to completely redefine awesome, but you killed him in ONE FUCKING PANEL just to please an obscure character (at least to me) named The Human Flame!!!
And what about nobody recognizing the New Gods anymore? What about the sheer nonsense of Metron giving the gift of fire to an obscure prehistoric boy suddenly transported in Kamandi's world then back without an explanation? What about Orion being suddenly dead and Darkseid being reincarnated in "boss Dark Side" (pleeease, this is so fucking ridiculous)? What about Turpin (that I never really liked) suddenly being a major character? Why doesn't this make any sense??????
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?!!

The unanimous reactions on scans_daily and on kali921's journal at least show me that I'm not the only one to feel this way. But still I was expecting so much more... Morrisson has either lost his mind or good comics aren't just trendy anymore, I don't know which one is the more plausible. And I've just lost a little more faith in humanity.

So now, I going to go curl up in a corner and eat chocolate cookies while mourning my favorite martian and hoping for a better day for comic books.

Bertrand Russell : "Life is nothing but a competition to be the criminal rather than the victim."

Let's follow the crowd and be a meme sheep

Memes are quite stupid but still fun to do.
For this one, go here and refresh the page until you can pick five quotes that really resonate with you, then post them to your journal.
So, here are my quotes:

-"Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest."
Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)

-"We must not allow the clock and the calendar to blind us to the fact that each moment of life is a miracle and mystery."
H. G. Wells (1866 - 1946)

-"Creativity is a drug I cannot live without."
Cecil B. DeMille (1881 - 1959)

-"I do not take a single newspaper, nor read one a month, and I feel myself infinitely the happier for it."
Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826)

-"Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much."
Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900)

Jeez, I surely was lucky, considering that I greatly admire and almost idolize all of these guys. I just wish hat I could have found at least one woman's quote interesting enough on the page I choose, but well, parity will be for some other day.

Oscar Wilde: "Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination."

Zombies just want to eat braaaaaaaaains

Today I superbly succeeded in making an utter fool of myself. As the story goes, this morning one of these sirens that are supposed to warn you in case of a terrorist attack, a toxic cloud or I don't know what others little lovelies of this kind screamed...and for a moment it scared the shit out of me.
Not actually for the REAL reasons to be stressed hearing this alarm, but because (and that's the embarrassing part), all I could think about for a few seconds was: "This is it, it happened! This is either a nuclear war or a zombie invasion..."
Yeah, you read it right (when I tell that my mind is fucked up, I'm not just joking).
You probably don't know it, but in France these kinds of sirens are worked every first Wednesday of the month, just to see if everything is running fine and apt to be used in case of a real danger.
But it was Thursday morning, just a little after 9 a.m. and as such, couldn't possibly be the regular work-out.
Really I froze a second, stopped what I was doing (taking my shower if you really want to know :P), and put on the radio. No bulletin news, nothing... After just a few minutes, the sirens finally stopped and I guess that it was after all just a big false alarm.
So, why am I even telling you this you might ask; for two main reasons:
-First this whole damn thing and the fact that I could even be scared by a siren with these thoughts in mind is absolute proof that I watch waaaay too much survival-horror movies.
-Second, and more important, I remain convinced (no matter what people say) that a total nuclear war or zombie condition inducing virus will one day put a end to the human specie. That it will ultimately eradicate itself.
Well of course, I KNOW that a total nuclear holocaust is far more probable (and far more frightening), but I prefer to believe in the hypothesis of the TEH ZOMBY INVASUN!!!1!
Because it's funnier, because it allows people with good survival skills (meaning people who are not me) to resist, at least for a little while, but most of all because this way animals (who would of course have died along with the humans in a nuclear catastrophe) would then have the Earth all for themselves...and honestly they deserve it for coping with us all these thousands of years.

Aughra: "Where is he?
Jen: He's dead.
Aughra: Could be anywhere, then."

Only strange creatures can stop my whining

I'm feel dead, oppressed and incredibly grumpy lately, know why?
Exams!!!!!!

I just KNOW that I will surely fail this session, and honestly that's not really puzzling, seeing how I completely neglected uni this semester. I feel so demotivated that even now, as the dreaded torture grow near, I can barely find the courage to study.
How come I'm so pathetic?

What's even more frustrating is that, as soon that college ISN'T involved I'm as curious and enthiousastic as ever. The latest example of this assertion regards the AMAZING find that has recently been made in the Sakhalin area (eastern Russia):

This unknown creature has been find by the seashore and displays some skin with hair or fur. The russian army obviously took it away as soon as they heard of it...but much more important, I can't reasonably be the only one to find a disturbing ressemblance between this and the Mystics, also known as urRus (from the movie "The Dark Crystal", 1982)!!?!

And some urRu art to bring additional proof:

This thing really cannot cease to fascinate me, and manages to bring some happiness in my desperate self-loathing mood (and damn, it just made me want to watch the movie again, God only knows I've no time for it).

So well I'm (maybe) going back to study like every poor student of the planet. #le sigh#

Jen: "Wings? I don't have wings!
Kira: Of course not. You're a boy."

Housework is evil and cooking's almost as bad

Now I'm convinced, I'm going to learn how to cook.
Not really because I'm beginning to worry on how I'll be able to survive with nothing to eat, once I'll live away from my parents' house. No, what decided me is my incredible, extraordinary super-laziness (my one and only super power!); because I don't want when I'm living with roommates (for example when I'm working in Canada during the summer) to EVER again be known as the-girl-who-always-does-the-dishes.
I'm honestly fairly certain that participating in the cooking will be A LOT less demanding that having to wash the dishes for eight persons every two meals.

All I ask is for a small dose of motivation, puh-leeze help and give me some, I'll do anything for you (honest).

The Spirit: "A murdering thug who writes nursery rhymes and mind his mother!..Wow!"

Mother Earth is hitting China

It have never denied the fact that I'm ardently opposed to almost anything from the chinese government because their politics are some of the most oblivious of basic human rights (and let's not even get started on their environmental stances). I've actively fought for the freedom and independence of Tibet since I was fifteen or such and it's no big secret that I'm fiercely opposed to the celebration of the Olympics in China.
Thus said, it doesn't mean in ANY way that I target the chinese people and today's news really really crushed me.
In case you haven't learned yet, an enormous earthquake of 7.9 magnitude struck Xinjiang in central China today, due to the confrontation in this place of the Eurasian and South-Asia landmasses. As of now the body count is of almost 9 000, and it's sure to rise up in the days to come. The quake also affected animals (as we usually tend to forget), especially since it hit Wolong Nature Reserve and the panda breeding center in Wenchuan county, which still remains out of contact.
So after Burma, Asia is once again targeted by forces of nature, and I hope that this time the rest of the world will act and help the population a lot faster. In a natural disaster like this one, every minute counts, let's never forget it.
I'll certainly give money to various charities like MSF or Handicap International, and cross fingers...
What else can I do?

Penguin: "Don't you have a president to assassinate or something..."

A TV gem: how often can you find one of these ?

OH.MY.GOD!!!
I was innocently prowling Youtube searching for animated goodness of the eighties when I stumbled upon THIS.
This my dears is an absolutely marvelous and freakingly disturbing video in claymotion featuring Mark Twain, Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher along with the "angel" Satan; yeah, you read it right. I held my breath during the more-than-five minutes it lasted and just KNEW I had to post it here.
So, enjoy "The Mysterious Stranger", by Will Vinton :

<lj-embed id="4" />
Fucking great, isn't it?

For the record, this is part a claymotion movie of 1985 called "The adventures of Mark Twain" which apparently describes the author's search to find the Haley comet (did you know by the way that Mark Twain was born a year of passage of the comet and rightly predicted himself that he would die during its next visit in 1910?). Apparently it was censored from several television stations at the time. Now, I honestly don't know if the rest of the movie is as good, but I just NEED to have it...seems like Amazon is going to receive a little visit from me this evening. ;)

Donna Troy: "Well...this went from zero to weird in a hurry..."

I'm still thinking of you

Well, today is May 8th, the official celebration of the end of WWII...and it makes me think of my Grampa.

Thanks to people like you Papy, to people who fought to the very end and never lost hope, even when all seemed lost, I am now able to live in a free world. You were only 20, but when war was declared you became a pilot, not because of the thrill, but because you knew you were fighting for freedom. And when you were defeated and your country occupied you didn’t let go, you didn’t flee or hide under common excuses, but you chose the hard path. You were a clandestined radio operator but also participated in several actions, you destroyed things, arsoned, probably killed (I never dared ask you), and were captured. I know you went to a concentration camp, a low security one, and that you were crazy enough to try to escape. Lucky and gifted enough to succeed. But even there, even after having seen and endured the worst horrors you didn’t stop, you knew it was more important than ever to hope and act upon your beliefs. You continued to fight until all seemed to go better, until the end of the war seemed to grow near, and I supposed that you became careless, or that they were better than previous times since they caught you again, recognized you and sent you to Birkenau. I’ve seen many photographs of the place in history books and thinking that you nearly lost your life here made me (and still makes me) quiver, not so much because I would never have existed, but because I can’t even picture what you must have endured. I saw the mark they left on you and I know you suffered like I will probably never experience, but life was decidingly loving you since the Russians soldiers freed you on their march to Germany. Weak, sick and dying you still chose to take arms and joined their ranks. It was now or never, and France would not see you again until everybody could be free.
Always reserved about what you went through, you taught us the ravages of hate and the virtues of bravery and tolerance. For all that and for having been my deeply loved grand-père, I thank you.

I miss you Papy.

"Celui qui croyait au ciel
Celui qui n'y croyait pas."

OCD IS NOT FUNNY!!!!!!

While searching for some information on several of the many OCD-related problems I have to live through I found this:

"Obsessive Compulsive Action Figure
This 5-1/4" (13.3 cm) tall, hard vinyl Obsessive Compulsive Action Figure is worried about whether or not you washed your hands after you used the bathroom. Just in case, he’s sure you won’t mind if he wears his gloves and surgical mask when he shakes your hand. Or even better, maybe you could just bump elbows with him. Now, as soon as he finishes counting those ceiling tiles, he can get started on alphabetizing the canned foods. Mini surgical mask included. Packaged with a sanitary, hypo-allergenic towelette to clean off the figure before you touch it. Illustrated blistercard."(from the website).

On a other page of the website you can find: "The “Obsessive Compulsive Action Figure” was conceived and created by a group of people who have obsessive compulsive traits."
Which is of course COMPLETELY different than being diagnosed and actually SUFFERING from the situation (by the way, obsessively fangirling over an actor or classing your CDs alphabetically DOES NOT mean you have obsessive compulsive disorder!!!).

"We do not believe we have any reason to be ashamed just because we have such traits. In a humorous way our action figure expresses that our attention to organization, order and cleanliness, is a part of our lives, which we choose to see in a positive light.Having and celebrating OC traits is our clear purpose in making this figure. Like the film, As Good As It Gets, with Jack Nicholson, we are what we are and we choose to present ourselves and our product in a humanizing and humorous way.In a diverse and free society, it is only to be expected that some people may fail to see the humor and positive side to our product. We respect that choice.Because we know that Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), in contrast to someone who has obsessive compulsive traits, is a serious condition..."
Thanks for at least admitting it

"... that requires professional help, we refer people to the website of the OC Foundation (www.ocfoundation.org) for more information."

Honestly, I DON'T FIND THIS FUNNY!!!!
Okay, maybe I'm just an over-sensitive stupid whining bitch, but seeing how my OCD is completely fucking my life up, I reserve to myself the right to bash these "toy" monstrosities. Really, OCD is a mental disease who can make those who have it suffering a LOT (trust me I'm talking from personal experience). YES, I wash my hands all the time, YES I always feel the need to make completely crazy rituals about things as simple for normal people as taking a shower or watching a movie (you know you're really crazy when you've got, like me, movie-watching rituals), YES I'm stressed ALL THE FUCKING TIME about things you couldn't even imagine as stressfull, and finally YES I follow therapy, am fully aware that I'm deranged and extremely ashamed of it in the same time (except my close family, my shrink and people I anonymously talk to on the internet, nobody knows I have OCD).
Making fun of it is as insensitive and cunt-like than making fun of brain damaged or paralyzed persons. I'm wondering what their next step will be, creating little dolls of comatose people complete with the respiratory machines or quadriplegics on in their little wheelchair? And after that what, jews in concentration camp, african people dying of hunger??!!!!

There are really things you CAN'T make fun of if you have a minimum of dignity and empathy. I wish that OCD was one of these...(and naively thought so).

By the way I totally love the series "Monk", which I don't find offensive at all.

Unnamed clerk of the hotel: "No luggages? No surnames? This is quite irregular...!
Iron: Why "irregular"? Robots don't wear clothes! Why should we carry luggage?
Tin: Sh-h-h! Y-you make us s-sound like n-nudists!
Gold: This isn't funny, Tin. We're victims of discrimination."

Fairly boring real life entry about sleep

Whoa, I am so incredibly tired, even something as simple as batting my eyelids is painful right now. Honestly, I must have slept a total of eight hours in two nights. I initially wanted to spend the evening watching DVDs or "Apocalypto" that I recorded last Saturday, but it can wait and right now I can't think of anything more appealing than a bed (especially my own since it presents the characteristic of being full of plushes :p).
So why am I here, still typing on the internet you could ask? I have no idea.
One of the stupid childish habits that I can't seem to be able to dump is the incapability to go to bed unless I'm literally falling asleep. And even if I really DO enjoy sleeping and just simply resting in a bed, I have the strong feeling that I've not fully benefited of the present day if I go to bed early.
Stupid, eh?

Bizarro No.1: "The secret son?...I'll tell you! It's sheer, colossal...super-stupidity!!"

Publicly, I often bash the norwegian government, most notably because (despite every reasonable environmental considerations), it's still one of the very few countries to authorize whaling. Furthermore, I'm also rather alarmed by the strong nationalist feelings (in the very bad meaning of these terms) that plague a lot of the population.
But honestly, I can't help but love Norwegians, if my fascination for nordic countries and mythologies is not proof enough, the fact that I'm actually learning swedish (knowing that speakers of the swedish language are normally able to understand norwegian and vice-versa) is really a strong giveaway.
And look at this photographic treasure: an indubitable evidence that Norway is indeed awesome:

Yes, you saw it, a (non-photoshopped, non-tricked) picture of a road sign warning for trolls. This is so utterly fabulous that it should be listed as one of the new world-wonders.

Seriously, the day I'll have my-own-house-for-me-and-me-alone, I will be needing one of these for my front yard.

Joker: "Well in that case...
...the left side of the menu looks good. I'll have two of those!"

Memes and tests are eating my life

Well, obviously today was a really lazy day, I spent some time on the internet, but instead of reading or writing interesting stuff, I went all "SQUEEEEEEE!!!!", over several cutsie photographs of baby animals (a selection will probably be posted here during the week ;)).
After the designing of my personal hell in the previous post, I also answered a lot of these stupid, childish, but really funny memes and tests that plague the net for our greatest pleasure.
My results are hidden under the cut (actually my very first one!).

I know that the french version of this one was made when I created my journal (and is actually featured in my profile), but I had to do it again in english, and surprise, surprise...

Your results:
You are Green Lantern

Green Lantern

Atlantis is my true home

I've always been obsessively fascinated by the myth of Atlantis (as the tittle of my LJ very well suggests ;)), and just today I found this.
This my dears is golden, a marvelous example of what poetry truly is, so read and enjoy the beauty:

Being set on the idea
Of getting to Atlantis,
You have discovered of course
Only the Ship of Fools is
Making the voyage this year,
As gales of abnormal force
Are predicted, and that you
Must therefore be ready to
Behave absurdly enough
To pass for one of The Boys,
At least appearing to love
Hard liquor, horseplay and noise.

Should storms, as may well happen,
Drive you to anchor a week
In some old harbour-city
Of Ionia, then speak
With her witty scholars, men
Who have proved there cannot be
Such a place as Atlantis:
Learn their logic, but notice
How its subtlety betrays
Their enormous simple grief;
Thus they shall teach you the ways
To doubt that you may believe.

If, later, you run aground
Among the headlands of Thrace,
Where with torches all night long
A naked barbaric race
Leaps frenziedly to the sound
Of conch and dissonant gong:
On that stony savage shore
Strip off your clothes and dance, for
Unless you are capable
Of forgetting completely
About Atlantis, you will
Never finish your journey.

Again, should you come to gay
Carthage or Corinth, take part
In their endless gaiety;
And if in some bar a tart,
As she strokes your hair, should say
“This is Atlantis, dearie,”
Listen with attentiveness
To her life-story: unless
You become acquainted now
With each refuge that tries to
Counterfeit Atlantis, how
Will you recognize the true?

Assuming you beach at last
Near Atlantis, and begin
That terrible trek inland
Through squalid woods and frozen
Thundras where all are soon lost;
If, forsaken then, you stand,
Dismissal everywhere,
Stone and now, silence and air,
O remember the great dead
And honour the fate you are,
Travelling and tormented,
Dialectic and bizarre.

Stagger onward rejoicing;
And even then if, perhaps
Having actually got
To the last col, you collapse
With all Atlantis shining
Below you yet you cannot
Descend, you should still be proud
Even to have been allowed
Just to peep at Atlantis
In a poetic vision:
Give thanks and lie down in peace,
Having seen your salvation.

All the little household gods
Have started crying, but say
Good-bye now, and put to sea.
Farewell, my dear, farewell: may
Hermes, master of the roads,
And the four dwarf Kabiri,
Protect and serve you always;
And may the Ancient of Days
Provide for all you must do
His invisible guidance,
Lifting up, dear, upon you
The light of His countenance.

by Wystan Hugh Auden

Oscar Wilde: "At twilight, nature is not without loveliness, though perhaps its chief use is to illustrate quotations from the poets."

I'm currently addicted to several webcomics, and xkcd (nope, that's not a typo) is one of them. Honestly it's hilarious and you should check this quickly (warning requires high nerding abilities and a very strong tolerance to scientific geekiness).
And here I came across this gem:

I really think this is the best definition of machism I ever laid my eyes upon.
Priceless!!!

Alfred Pennyworth:"I'd win the bloody Nobel for it if it wouldn't compromise some of your most sensitive secrets."
